Small Forest Axe
Fitting nicely into that void between a hatchet and a full sized axe, this Forest Axe is a great tool for myriad uses when you're in the woods. It makes short work of limbing a felled tree and is even quite capable of felling smaller trees on its own.
Overall length of my Small Forest Axe is right at 17.5", so it's not too bulky to wear on the hip. It's long enough that you can get two hands on the handle comfortably. The head weight comes in right around 1 pound 11 ounces, which gives it a nice solid feel without being overly fatiguing to swing. Total weight is a hair under 2 pounds 4 ounces. The head body is mild steel with a high carbon steel bit forge welded in to hold a great edge.
I make this axe in my shop in rural Virginia from locally purchased steel for the head and locally harvested ash or hickory for the handle. If you prefer a different profile that's no problem! Just send me a message with what you have in mind and I can make it happen.
I don't anticipate it, but if you ever have a problem with one of my hand forged pieces, contact me and I'll make it right.
