Forged Tomahawk from Railroad Clip
This is a high quality tool. I forge these from railroad clips, which are one of the fastener types used to hold railroad track to the sleepers or ties. They are about 1060 steel, great for making axes and such. They measure approximately 5.25 inches long with about a 2.5-inch long cutting edge and weigh between 11 and 12 ounces. I hand sharpen these to a razor's edge. They come mounted to a 14-inch long, hand-carved hickory handle. The size of these would be similar to what the size of a colonial era belt axe would be. Here is a video of me forging them.
