Timber Framing Slick

This is a serious timber framer's tool. Coming in at a total length of just over 33 inches, this 2, 2.5 or 3 inch wide timber framing slick will get the job done. The slick body measures 16 inches and the handle adds another 17.5 inches, so you can put your full body weight into using this sturdy tool.

The design I've gone with is old school and proven, with the high carbon steel cutting edge being forge welded onto a mild steel body. The cutting edge is ground to 25 degrees and as flat as possible, though if you prefer a convex grind I can accommodate that as well. I shape the socket by drawing out the steel in a fan shape and then rolling it over and forge welding it together. Each handle is hand turned out of either ash, hickory, or cherry and the socket tang is then whittled by hand to fit into the slick socket snugly. Say that five times fast!

Each timber framing slick is made to order, right here in my shop in rural Virginia. I purchase my steel locally and all of the handle wood is grown and harvested locally as well. If you have any design features that you'd like to add or change let me know, I'm happy to do it!
